Dream City Station Wins National Award for Station Architecture
The Dream City terminal station receives the National Award for Excellence in Station Architecture from the Indian Institute of Architects for its diamond-facet inspired design.
Surat Metro's Dream City terminal station has been awarded the National Award for Excellence in Station Architecture by the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA).
The jury praised Dream City station for its 'bold and futuristic design that symbolises Surat's aspirations as a global diamond city.' The station's sweeping curved roof, inspired by the facets of a cut diamond, incorporates passive cooling through solar chimneys, reducing air conditioning energy requirements by an estimated 22%.
The station features a ground-level urban plaza with public seating, local retail stalls, a landscaped garden, and vertical gardens on the facade that improve local air quality.
'This award, received before we have even opened our doors to the public, reaffirms that every design decision we made was the right one,' said an SMRL spokesperson. The station's formal public opening will take place on the commercial launch day.
