Feeder Bus and Ride-Share Integration Finalised for Launch Day
SMRL finalises the Metro Feeder Bus plan with Surat Municipal Corporation and signs MoUs with Ola and Rapido for integrated last-mile bookings from Day 1 of commercial operations.
Surat Metro Rail Limited and Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) have finalised the Metro Feeder Bus plan — a dedicated CNG bus service connecting metro stations to residential areas within a 5 km radius to solve the last-mile connectivity challenge.
From the day commercial operations begin, 32 dedicated CNG feeder buses will be deployed at 8 key stations, with timings synchronised to metro departures. Smart Card holders will receive a 30% discount on feeder bus fares, with combined metro and bus journeys tracked as a single integrated trip.
Separately, SMRL has signed Memoranda of Understanding with Ola and Rapido to offer integrated last-mile mobility bookings directly within the Surat Metro app, covering bike-taxis, auto-rickshaws, and cabs at partner stations from launch day.
'The first and last mile is the biggest challenge for any metro system. By having feeder buses and ride-share integration ready from Day 1, we remove that barrier for commuters,' said an SMRL Business Development official.
