Priority Section Trial Runs Cross 400-Hour Mark — CMRS Inspection Advances
Trial operations on the 8.5 km Dream City–Althan Tenement stretch have crossed 400 of the planned ~500 test hours, with the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety inspection now in its final stages.
Trial operations on Surat Metro's priority stretch between Dream City and Althan Tenement have now crossed 400 of the planned ~500 hours of testing, Surat Metro Rail Limited (SMRL) confirmed this week.
The test programme, which began on 29 March 2026, has evaluated train speed, braking performance, signalling reliability, and platform screen door synchronisation across repeated runs on the 8.5 km elevated section. Engineers from Siemens Mobility (signalling) and Alstom (rolling stock) have been present throughout the testing window.
The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has conducted multiple site visits during this phase and is now reviewing final documentation ahead of issuing a safety clearance. SMRL officials say the remaining test hours are expected to be completed within the coming weeks.
'We are in the home stretch. Every system — from ATP signalling to platform screen doors — has performed within expected safety margins,' said an SMRL spokesperson. 'Once CMRS clearance comes through, the State Government will announce the commercial launch date.'
Commuters along the Ring Road and Sarthana–Dream City corridor remain eager for an official launch date, following months of visible trial trains running on the elevated viaduct.
